UNIQUE PLACE

Located in the historic district of Les Halles, Saint-Eustache is one of the most visited churches in Paris. It is particularly distinguished by its dimensions, the great richness of the works of art it houses, and its great organ.

Faithful to its musical tradition, the Church welcomes all year-round Philharmonic formations, choirs and prestigious festivals.

On the way from the island of the city to the hill of Montmartre, close to the enclosure of Philippe Auguste, a modest chapel was built in 1213;

It became a parish church, consecrated to Saint-Eustache, welcoming relics of this Roman martyr, given by the Abbey of Saint-Denis.

In 1989, after a long desolation in the Soviet period, the monastery on Valaam was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. During the divine services, the brethren began to revive the traditions of the ancient singing. In order to popularize ancient music, various official church events and concert and educational activities (according to the rules of monastic life, the brethren cannot participate in public speeches) a group of professional musicians was created. The official date of creation of the Choir of the Valaam Monastery is August 19, 2005. On this day, a solemn divine service was held on the occasion of the restoration and consecration of the main shrine of the Valaam monastery - the Transfiguration of the Savior Cathedral, headed by the Most Holy Patriarch and with the participation of the Choir of the Valaam Monastery.

The leading idea of the work of the choir is cultural and educational activities, and spiritual and patriotic education through the creation of musical, poetic, historical, memorial and thematic programs.

By 2019, the choir sang over 500 concerts in the cities of Russia and abroad, created a number of concert programs - “The Majestic Tones of Balaam”, “Melodies of the Russian Soul”, “Faith and Victory”, “Forgotten War”, “The Light of Christ Enlightens All” and a lot others. The church singing group since 2005 annually participates in the Patriarchal services at Valaam.

The choir team is accompanied by patriarchal services on Valaam, ceremonial receptions on the island of Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the Russian government and other high-ranking guests of the monastery.
